A Community of Faith

Stone engravingWelcome to a new year of learning and teaching, of exploration and discovery at the University of Chicago! Whether you are a brand new student in the College or a graduate program, or a seasoned member of the staff or faculty, we hope that the new academic year will be a rich experience for you. This publication is the effort of Rockefeller Memorial Chapel and the various Campus Ministries and religious associations at the University. Our hope is that you might become acquainted with the tremendous variety of opportunities for spiritual fellowship that exist within this community. We are extraordinarily fortunate, indeed, to have the presence of so many religious traditions to inform and enrich both our personal experiences and our common life together.

Rockefeller Chapel serves as the liaison to the wider University for the various religious groups on campus, each of which is supported by its own constituents in the Chicago area and around the country. We at the Chapel thus serve the University’s educational mission by honoring and supporting the diverse religious perspectives that enrich and challenge our individual and corporate life

We encourage you to print, complete, and mail the response form included in this Web site. The information will be shared only with the religious tradition or traditions you specify—either with their representatives on campus or with other creditable religious representatives in the city if there is no active group on campus.

Pastor Laura Hollinger, Associate Dean of the Chapel, and all the other Campus Ministers, join me in welcoming you to your first or latest year at the University. We sincerely hope that Rockefeller Chapel and the other religious organizations will be a vital resource for you in the years ahead.

Alison L. Boden, Dean of the Chapel
